-- Part 2
-- Main --
[Day 3] - side trips - Stonehenge? Errand for Giles?
(Stonehenge has a wire fence around it... how do they get past that? Council ID's?)
Buffy carefully pulled into the crowded parking lot. Looking around, Buffy noticed several small vans bristling with antennas. "Let's hope this is a false alarm." she said. "Giles isn't going to be too happy if it isn't."
"Why?" Ginny asked.
"Someone told the media." she waved at the vans. "Let me do the talking," she added.
"You're in charge," Ginny agreed.
Getting out of the car, Buffy waited for Ginny to grab her small magic kit before steering her towards the gate. At the edge of the crowd, they looked around, trying to find a way reach the gate as unobtrusively as possible.
Quickly coming to the conclusion that avoiding the crowd was going to be impossible, she started pushing her way through. The crowd parted reluctantly under the combined force of her glare and judicious use of force, Ginny following closely in her wake.
Reaching a small group of policemen blocking the gate, they stood there for a minute before they were noticed.
Stepping forward, an older officer addressed them. "Can I help you, Miss?" he asked.
"We're here about yesterday's disturbance." Buffy told him, nodding towards the stone edifice off in the distance. She reached into a pocket and pulled out her Council ID.
Taking her ID he carefully looked it over before looking at Buffy intently for a moment. He nodded before addressing Ginny. "And you, Miss?"
"Oh. Yes, I'm with her." Ginny said, producing her own ID and handing it over.
"Right. Detective Inspector Langdon is expecting you." Returning their ID's, he nodded to the other policemen who stepped aside to let them through.
"That wasn't too bad." Ginny said quietly, once they were mid way between the parking lot and the out stone circle.
"One of the first things Giles did when he took over was to re-establish a working relationship with the British police," Buffy said. "It isn't perfect and they might not all know who or what we are, but they do know when to call us."
"Did he do that in America?" Ginny asked.
"Well... not quite." Buffy admitted. "That's a whole different thing. It's hard to build the kinds of relationships with the US locals that we need. Everything is so political. There are a few who know, outside of Cleveland and the other hotspots, but we have Federal contacts when we need someone to run official interference."
"Oh." Ginny said. "You have to deal with that all the time, don't you."
"Yup. Not very glamourous. Hopefully this detective person will let us check things out without interference." Buffy shrugged. "Being a diplomat is all part of the slayer mystique."
"Uh, huh." Ginny shook her head. "What about Faith? She doesn't strike me as very diplomatic."
"She's not bad at it. Could be better." Buffy said. "She does tend to distract them. Not sure why." Buffy winked at her.
"Okay..." Ginny said, her tone indicating her disbelief.
Buffy stood in the center of the monument, ignoring her audience. There was something in the air. Ginny hadn't been able to detect anything but it was there.
