Spammers: Dan Gillmor has it right. We can't encourage spammers by providing them with any revenue from their efforts. If it arrives unsolicited, I refuse to act on it. In a competitive environment, there are always other choices.
In Outlook I've had to shift my Inbox handling quite a bit. I have a MyMail subolder, and I have rules in Microsoft Outlook that move mail from trusted domains into that folder, along with certain individuals. What I need to make the process complete is the ability to move all messages from email addresses in my contacts folder into MyMail as well. It won't entirely eliminate the need to scan the Inbox, but it does let me focus my attention on "trusted" senders. The spammers can get around it, on occasion, by spoofing an address in my domain, for example.
