In It for the Long Run. Exercise Is Key to the Prescription for Healthy Aging, No Matter How Old You Are [Washington Post]

"Equally enlightening, given the growing number of overweight and sedentary Americans, is new research suggesting that most of the physical changes chalked up to growing old – insulin resistance, decreased lung function and elevated systolic blood pressures – are not due to aging at all, but to inactivity. A New England Journal of Medicine study of more than 6,000 older men published earlier this year showed that poor physical fitness was a better predictor of death than smoking, hypertension or heart disease."

Jay Leno. "I don't understand how Osama Bin Laden is able to send emails from caves and here I am living in Burbank, CA and it takes me 2 hours to log onto AOL."

Jeannette Rankin. "You can no more win a war than you can win an earthquake."

I was raised as a jingoistic patriot. As an adult nearing 40 and as a parent of two, I'm not seeing that War has gotten us much more than some dramatic movies. Another thing I said almost never as a teenager and more and more often as I grow older.

Don't Go There!

Mark Twain. "It is easier to stay out than get out."

Reminds me of smoking. I saw how addictive it was, and the end result from watching three grandfathers die of cancer who all smoked. And I think I knew somewhere, even young, that if I started smoking OR drinking, I might not find my way out.

Mary MacCracken. "Level with your child by being honest. Nobody spots a phony quicker than a child."
