George Burns. "Age to me means nothing. I can't get old; I'm working. I was old when I was twenty-one and out of work. As long as you're working, you stay young. When I'm in front of an audience, all that love and vitality sweeps over me and I forget my age."

Re: Silicon Valley from Dave: Part of me is very glad to see all the For Lease signs on office space. For so many years those buildings were filled with people spending public money on projects that couldn't go anywhere. Now at least there's space available, and presumably people, if and when the lights come on again.  [Scripting News]

The "Internet Boom" caused discontinuity in the marketplace. Businessmen (like myself) saw the hype and hoopla and failed to see the business model in so many of these efforts. In particular, high touch service and information were being offered for "free" (actually, investors were paying the development and subscription fees). In that environment, bootstrapping became difficult if you were competing in a space where your competitors' business models were flawed--even to the point of tens of millions of dollars in losses per year... or month.

Competition against those without a business model but with bucks (more money than brains) requires survival long enough for the do-do birds to die off. Now that many of them have, there is breathing room... and also untapped talent waiting for a project that makes sense.

They were discussing the details with their friends. Betty wasn't going to wear a traditional bridal gown and she started describing the dress she was planning to wear. One of her friends asked what color shoes she had to go with the dress.

Betty replied, "Silver."

At that point, her husband to be chimed in, "Yep silver... to match her hair."

Shooting a glaring look at Barney, Betty's friend said, "So Barney, I guess you are going barefoot."
