Touch is a basic human need, and for many who are suffering from an illness, the need is even greater. Fortunately, healing touch is practiced in every culture. There are different systems of helpful touch therapy -- from Oriental massage techniques like acupressure to the therapeutic touch practiced by nurses in the West. I frequently recommend massage and touch therapy because it is never harmful, and it often dramatically improves how you feel. You can even apply healing touch to yourself. Just hold the part of your body that hurts -- or better yet, ask a loved one to lend a hand. If you ever felt better simply because your mom rubbed your head or stomach, then you'll know this really works.
