'Pregnancy put me in a wheelchair' [BBC Health] Story about a woman who suffered from symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD), which incapacitated her during pregnancy. Then she discovered a classical osteopath Quentin Shaw, who said her condition was probably linked to an injury she had sustained before she became pregnant. After just one session he had Lia walking again. "I went up to the practice on crutches, but I walked out normally."
The article did not describe the type of work the O.D. performed. It may or may not be within the scope of practice for massage therapists. But I can certainly see how certain sacral displacements could make healing difficult, and that craniosacral work might be the kind of gentle work that could have supported her during her pregnancy. I am going to try and reach the doctor to ask what he did.
