From The New York Times U.S. Says Dissenting States Can Pursue Microsoft.   This is a short but interesting piece.  First off, when did the states get the power to regulate business to the rest of the country?  I understand if the business was in the state but not the way it is.  They have the right to sue for damages they percieve but not to curb a companies behavior.  Second of all.  The proposals floating around demand that Microsoft release the source code to it's products is rediculous.  In effect they are saying that you've created this, it's yours, but we don't like what you're doing with it so we're going to take it from you and give it to your competitors.  This is in effect stealing the minds of other people who've chosen to work at Microsoft.  Even breaking up the company which I'm strong opposed to would be a more just resolution than this.

Someone I know recently made a post to his live journal deriling one of my friends.  The response from other people known mutually was to say the least venemous.  It grew into a nasty flame war that completely lost the topic.  Is this a reason to say that blogging is bad.  No.  This is a great advocate for it.  A lot of us have something to say.  The fine line is that when posting to someone else's space you need to try to keep the conversation reasonable. They've given you the chance to comment for better or worse because they are interested as well.  But if the comments begin to out-weigh the posts maybe it's time you move it to your own space.  Get yourself a blog and keep it there.  There's a lot of I've learned in 10 years of writing on the web and BBS's..and this was one of the hardest.  Just remember no one appreciates a flame war and if you have something vital to add make sure you're doing it in the right space.
