I'm reading Ray Kurzweil's book, The Age of Spiritual Machines. The book deals with the facts of an ever increasing technological civilization. It details the speeds at which new technologies emerge and the questions they raise. One such question is: When robotic or some other form of bodies are available for us to move our consciousness's into what will become of Morality? Right now Morality is concerned with our frail human bodies and tending to it's needs. This alone is an incredibly profound question. I suggest you read this book slowly giving time to think of each of the questions. I have to say it's probably the most thought provoking book I've read in years. Here's some more information on the author and his companies and think tanks. I've been meaning to read this book for a year or so now and I'm glad I finally picked it up. Now putting it down is the hard part.
