I just found another really cool thing about Windows XP. This could be in other versions but I never found it. The Indexing Service from the NT/2000 core. For instance I have Radio keep a local backup of my blog. Everything I write on here and the site design is stored on my HD in case I ever want to transfer it somewhere else, or the UserLand servers have a catastrophic failure. Anyways the point is that the indexing service is there to index all of your documents stored on the HD, including webpages. I can search my blog for an idea or something I wrote months or years ago using this. It's *almost* like Google for the desktop. It needs some work still. I'd like more control over what it indexes. I could really use an E-Mail index to go with this. I think this is prime real-estate for some company to set up shop in. I have a feeling it will be Microsoft. You can already see the formation. The next version of Windows will ship with a new file system that is...you guessed it, a Database. All your files are suddenly indexable with ease. There's still time though. If you think you can do a better job than Redmond the next version of Windows isn't due till 2004. That's more than enough time to work something up to take the desktop world by storm.

Doesn't look like much interesting in the news right now. I'll dig a little bit later. I'm gonna play with the new Yahoo! Messenger which now supports broadband style webcam speeds. This is actually a heavily used feature and a sign that maybe Yahoo! is getting it. It's not about what content you can force down people's throats, it's about what THEY want to do and apparently they wanna see each other.
