The New Intellectual : Many words have been granted me, and some are wise, and some are false, but only three are holy: "I will it!"

I think I have just read the most inspiring and intelligent piece of writing this century has yet produced and may well produce.  This states cleary and intelligently the very moral basis of a capitalist and free society.  The moral implications are amazing and well stated.  If you never read anything again, please make it be this.  The Anti-Idiotarian Manifesto by Eric S. Raymond The Permalink may not work as this is the final draft so please direct your browser to this address and scroll down.

Sharp shines up on-glass circuitry. Japan's largest maker of liquid-crystal displays unveils a screen that has microprocessor circuitry applied directly onto the glass, enabling it to function like a PC. [CNET News.comI can think of a few uses for this without trying.  Bathroom mirror's with touchscreens to catch up on the evening's email and news while you shave and get ready for work.  Resturant table tops where the menu is displayed and ordered without paper or waitress.  Store-fronts that can answer questions about items and their in-stock status without entering the store.  There are litterally millions of uses for a technology like this.

There are people like me left.  An Open Letter To The FCC Chairman.  This is an amazing letter that I doubt very few people would understand why.  This letter heralds to a time before the government decided it was capitalism's baby-sitter.  This approach should be used across the board in all industries but ESPECIALLY one that so dearly needs a change like the telecom sector.  It is these companies that are using government bailouts and regulation to prevent the average person from being able to afford unlimited bandwith and the amazing capabilities it can provide.  These businesses with the help of the government are the real monopolies, not because they control their markets but because they do so by lobbying and crying to the Congress every time they're threatened as opposed to adapting to the changing times.  The copper wire infrastructure of the 20th century is past obsolete.  Fiber is here and dropping in price every day.  It's almost unlimitedly expandable and can carry thousands of time the traffic, from voice to data.  It's time we give up our love for metal wires and analog speeds.  It's time to communicate at the speed of the universe.
