My own thoughts, nothing new here, it's all been said so many times before. But there's news today, so it must be said again. Here goes. There's no justice in today's decision. It won't stop Microsoft and other monopolists from seizing new monopolies through tying. It's anti-innovation because it paralyzes smaller developers, making it impossible for them to raise investment capital to pursue new software opportunities. Large companies don't innovate in software. To think they do is as wrong as it would be to believe that large corporations write innovative scripts, screenplays, novels, songs, plays. Government has yet to figure this out, nor has Microsoft or other big companies. Even so it's true. It's a sad day for software. It's a sad day for the USA. [Scripting News] Much of what's said here may be true. Big Co's may be failing to innovate in ways that smaller companies are but this is the catch. It's up to the Consumer to regulate this. If you don't like what Microsoft produces, don't buy it. It's that simple. For all the whinning and moaning I here on a daily basis about Microsoft and it's "inferiror products" you'd think this company would be going bankrupt. But no, these people still continue to use their products. Don't like Windows? Buy a Mac, or buy Linux, or use Unix. Don't like Office? Use OpenOffice.org or Corel. Don't like Windows/MSN Messenger? Use AIM or Yahoo! Messenger or ICQ or mIRC. Don't like Media Player? Use WinAmp, or RealPlayer, or QuickTime. The list goes on. For every product that people rally against there are dozens of competitors out there at little to no cost.
Wait, here's an idea. Get some space on your area's local access channel. Run an ad. Ask if people like using MS's software. If they don't suggest that they contact you. With the amount of angst against this company there's more than enough technical know-how and money to create a competing product that could very well be better. Better yet this is the internet age. Do it on the net. Start a company and write some code. Do your honest best to educate the people who are your perspective buyers on why your product is better, do demo's and comparisons. If your product is so much better there will be millions of people jumping to fund you with a few dollars....go public. Ask people to put their money (i.e. the fruit of their labor, the very best they had to offer's reward) where their mouths are. If they're not willing to help create a better product, then all their bitching is just another way of them saying that someone should do something as long as it's not gonna hurt me. It comes down to put up or shup up.
