Tom Coates on Weblog Culture. Tom Coates of plasticbag, writes about the challenges to weblogging culture being caused by scale:
The real growth area in the next five years will be in these contextualising tools ... A future weblogging culture should be able to find counterpoints to arguments, to identify experts quickly and easily, and it should help good commentary bubble up effectively from new or low-trafficked sites. Mechanisms that help us know who to read, who to trust and who to ignore should be permeating the entire community invisibly and pervasively. [Corante: Social Software]

X1 - Great download.
From John Robb, a terrific product recommendation:
Bill Gross has finally launched X1, his fast search tool on the desktop (Web, e-mail, files, and attachments). There is a full-featured, no time limit, free version available. This is a good replacement for the hideous search feature in Outlook.

I just installed X1, and so far it looks terrific. Thanks John! [tins ::: Rick Klau's weblog]
