Wine of the Night
1999 Domaine Barons De Rothschild (Lafite) Le Dix de Los Vascos (At least I have the bottle sitting right here so I won't misidentify it as a Northern Shrike.)
Tonight's wine is a landmark for me. It is the very first Chilean wine that I've ever liked. Usually I find Chilean wines to be way over peppered, grassed, and watery. However this one is significantly different - and that's probably because it's a Rothschild property.
The wine has a wonderful rich Bordeaux nose - very French: big but not overdone. It is an extremely smooth wine that opened up within about 40 minutes. It's multi-layered and still has a lot of tanins, so it does need to breath. This is a wonderful Cab that I would definitely drink again.
