Wine of the Night
Tonight's bottle of wine was consumed at Sack's with the Ski Boy and Pooh (Son of Ski Boy). A very nice, very classic Poulliac Bordeaux - 2000 Chateau Duhart Milon - a Lafite Rotshchild Property.
Very rich and complex nose - tanins and spices were right there upon first sniff. My nose is getting to the point, where I can nine times out ten know whether a wine is good, great, indifferent or bad just from the first sniff. If there's no schnozzle happening, the wine is probably destined for the dump bucket.
I've sort run out of adjectives to describe a well made French Bordeaux. The wines are multi-layered, complex, and really open up after breathing. This wine is no different. It's not a premiere grand cru. But it is certainly a very nice troisieme cru (3rd growth).
And Dr.L., you're just jealous. It's not the quantity of wine consumed. It's the quality and diversity!
