Well I haven't really caught the world up lately so here goes. Back on the 27th of July my Wife and I met my Dad and step Mother at the Boone County Fair. The target was the Fiddler's Contest. We met at my Dad's and rode over with them. This event has a pre contest jam session. We were there less than five minutes before Dad has his flat top out and was getting with it. He sat in with several fiddlers from young to old and I truly enjoyed seeing him have such a good time.
Once the contest got underway, Dad did standup with a couple of fiddlers during the contest. The lady he helped backup ended winning the strongest class. The weather was good enough, so the post contest jam session took of in full swing. Dad was completely in his element and I had a blast sitting on the sidelines and watching.
The Callaway County fair started the next week and on Tuesday I wnet down to help Dad take his team of minature horses (Dusty and Shasta) to the event. Included in that trip was their new colt Firecracker (yes born on the 4th), called Cracker for short. He is so tiny. The three were led to a pen and where mostly a petting opprotunity for youngsters at the fair. Was pretty warm, but was in a covered livestock shed that was without sides so the breeze helped as did being out of the sun.
On the next Saturday went up to my friends in Fayette and went to the Ice Cream, Cake and Fiddling Contest. Was a little hotter, however the town square was well shaded with big hardwood trees. Again my Dad caught the pre and post jam sessions although he decided to not standup with the competitors this time. We ended up at Steve's and enjoyed a scrumptious meal prepared by his wife Connie. Fayette has had a new highschool built. Steve and I took in a little of the grand opening. Looks like it will help bring to Fayette's students some much needed imporovements. Which I think they would agree that 'AC' is one of the most appreciated.
The following Tuesday my wife and I got the treat of taking my Dad and step Mom to a concert of 'Down From the Mountain'. The weather cooperated beautifully as thunderstorms during the night were a prelude to a ten degree drop in tempature. Some advance footwork on my part ensured an easy entry and exit. The music was fantastic. This is the first time I'd taken my parents to a concert and it worked out remarkably well. For that I am grateful.
My Mother and step Father came up on Saturday. The whole posse of, my Aunt from St. Peters, my Uncle and Aunt from Jefferson City gathered and made a brief visit to my new home here. Then we ended up in St. Peters and had an enjoyable get together. The trip, although tiring for my Mom, was significant aa her battle with lung cancer has kept her pretty well constrained to her home. I know she had a good time, although it was easy to tell that it was a lot of stress.
I have met a long time goal of breaking 100 on the golf course. I recently shot a true 96 and have been very happy about it. A recent 109 has brought me back to reality on that, but I look forward to improving. August golf in Missouri can be draining. Am looking forward to a little break from that. My goals of spending more time with my family is paying off in spades. This Saturday I will start a fall church bowling league with my cousins, I look forward to a fun season.
