From Dave Winer @ Scripting News: Discourse in the RSS community has reached new lows, but none of this means that RSS 2.0 will be delayed by even one moment. [Scripting News]
Now I can't say with much certainty that what Dave reveals in the 'reached' link is real or not. I can say that I feel Dave has not misled me in the past and so I take that as an indicator of the validity of his news. I've played with Radio for several years and am a programmer by trade/profession. The concepts fascinate me. What a unique and powerful tool.
Once a tool with this power is put in the hands of so many people, you will get the tool in hands of people that will NOT matchup with your values. I believe that Dave 's goal is being met, and yet, that fact sets up the dilema. If some one is wrapped around Dave and his crew going forward to declare a standard, then please give me a break. Bigger companies than Dave 's do it every day. That is how business is done, take the high ground, declare your method a standard and keep getting on. It is only later that you will learn if that is true or not. The market will show you.
If you like the standard support it, if you don't, make your own. If you can't do either, get over it. We are in an age where threats, veiled or public, will be met with the strongest of response. I, for one, think Dave should go ahead and enroll the authorities, the culprits would do this same, if the tables were turned. Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong (apologies to Dennis Miller).
