Why do so many Japanese television adverts end with the name of the company being pronounced in (American) English? Car companies seem to be the biggest culprits, but it's by no means limited to them. Do the people who make these adverts think that this is cool? Well, it's not. It just sounds stupid. So there.

Is it just me who cannot see why an English school would advertise with the slogan 'What's next [company name]'?
Judging by the vacuity of the phrase, 'bankruptcy' might not be too surprising an answer to the question...

I'm a huge fan of the evening local news programme Gekkin Live on Hiroshima Home TV. There are reasons for this, but we'll explore them some other time...
Anyway, there's a gardening segment on Friday afternoons, and the gardener has just mentioned that if you put four cigarette butts in one litre of water and leave it overnight, the resulting (brown) water kills insects when sprayed on plant leaves. Interesting!

What a difference a couple of days makes! Only two days ago it seemed like spring had arrived, but today feels like winter again. A morning of rain that left bubbles in the puddles on the road was followed by an afternoon of dull greyness; almost an absence of weather itself.
However, the kosa is terrible today. Looking across the bay from Washibe to Nomijima, there's an almost tangible yellowness in the air itself. It might be mistaken for a fog, were it not for the tiny granules of sand in the air. One can almost taste the yellowness of this afternoon.
