I've just checked the internet. The earthquake was a 3 (on the shindo scale), and happened at 10.58.
It would have been spooky had it happened yesterday, exactly a year after the Geiyo Jishin...

There's just been rather a large earthquake here! No flying CDs this time, but lots of rattling.

Today the jinji-ido was announced. From April- that is, from next Monday- various people in the office will be moving to new jobs. In our office of twelve, we have two people retiring, one new person entering as his first position in the Town Office, two people moving to new jobs within the office, two moving out of the office, and one moving in from another department... I think. I lost track halfway through writing all that. Anyway, it's certain that from Monday the office will be a very different place.
In particular, the person who's worked next to me ever since I first arrived here, four years ago, is one of the people moving out of the office. Over this time, we've come to be able to work together well as partners; I wonder whether the replacement will come to be the same. Unfortunately, though, I have a sneaking suspicion that he might have no interest whatsoever in internationalisation and so on, which would certainly make my job less straightforward. We'll just have to wait and see...
