One more post for Thursday...     

Went to hanami with a friend. We didn't meet until 6, so by the time she'd driven round to the park, it was already almost dark, so in the end it turned out to be night cherry blossom viewing. In fact, though, this has a charm of its own; the chochin lanterns were lit, casting a faint glow on to the blossoms above, which glowed duskily pink against the dark, and by chance there was a superb full moon, which showed its face through the blossoms. It was pleasant to see how it rose as we talked into the deepening night.
The park was deserted when we got there, but oddly enough, when we left at 9, there was a steady stream of people wandering up the hill to the blossoms. A fair portion of them were carrying picnic blankets and mounds of provisions (for which, read alcohol), too...
