Went to see the film 'A Beautiful Mind' in Hiroshima with a friend. It was far better than I thought, although I did want to see the new version of 'E.T.' on its first day of release here. The day was actually extremely enjoyable- I met an old friend from Hiroshima University- she's still there, in fact- and we had an excellent lunch at a new Vietnamese restaurant in Pacela, in the centre of Hiroshima. The weather was just right- warm, but without the humidity that will unfortunately become more and more noticeable as we head into summer- and so we sat outside. Good food, leisurely dining, interesting conversation- pretty close to perfect. A girlfriend like this would be great... Afterwards we went to the Paul Signac exhibition at the Hiroshima Art Museum. Many of Signac's watercolours have Normandy and Brittany as their subject, which brought back many fond memories. A very interesting exhibition. It always surprises me just how many well-known paintings there are in this museum- I hadn't been for a long time, so it was good to go again. Anyway, after coffee, we went to the cinema (seats middling to fair). The film was interesting in that it was difficult to judge whether the main character was delusional or not, until well into the film- and even then it wasn't certain. The trailer for 'About a boy' looked good, too...
