Beer garden 2

Beer garden 1
|
|
It's Friday afternoon, so a quick surf of the Internet before going off to the beer garden is in order, methinks.
Anyway, a couple of superb sites courtesy of 'www.wemadeoutinatreeandthisoldguysatandwatchedus.com' (again, perhaps best not to look at these while in a serious setting...):
First is a site entitled 'Hi girls, anyone want
to chat?'. I didn't bother to read the text; the picture on the left
was more than enough...
Then there's the superbly named 'www.jesus.com'. This site, I think,
will merit further investigation when I'm not at work and therefore liable to be thought mad for laughing at a computer... More details later.

Got my wedding photos developed today. The wedding photos themselves
were good, although unfortunately few in number, but more interesting
was the picture of Mt. Fuji I took from the Shinkansen.
So the ten minutes I spent crouched by the carriage door were worth it,
after all!

Well, a fax came, which ranks this lunchtime's toban as much more
interesting than normal...
|
|
I'm hiru toban- on lunchtime duty- today.
Which- of course- means that there'll be no visitors and no phone calls.
There never are when I'm on duty! Mind you, at least it's a peaceful,
relaxing hour. I'd listen to some music were it not for the fact
that I need to hear the phones (I'd be happy to bet that the moment I
put my earphones on the phone would ring!)...

Spent a fair part of the morning driving around the island distributing
posters for the International Club's latest event to the elementary
schools and the library. At this time of year, driving around is always
a good move, because it's not yet time for the air conditioning in the
office to be switched on, but the car can be made deliciously cool.
(People always know which car I've been driving, I'm sure, because the
air conditioning is always set to 'full', but that's a different
story.)
The International Club is holding an event called 'Egg Day' on May 26th
(and no, the title doesn't sound this stupid in Japanese!). We're making
egg-based food, and then holding an egg hunt and egg-and-spoon races,
etc. Just the sort of thing that my elementary school children love, in
other words. All we need now is for good weather next Sunday, then. Oh,
and for some people to turn up...

Well, it looks like it's finally stopped raining, and we might even see
a bit of blue sky today. Which is odd, really, because I'm going to a
beer garden with some friends this evening, so it should really have
been raining torrentially. Of course, a Japanese beer garden is not
like an English beer garden, with rustic benches on a wide lawn with
rose bushes and waddling ducks (so not too much idealistic
imagery there, then). No, a Japanese beer garden is generally a wide
expanse of concrete, normally on the roof of a department store. This
evening's 'garden' is exactly that- two hundred or so plastic chairs on
the rooftop of a department store in Kure. Still, 3000 yen or so buys
two hours of unlimited drinking (and a whole range of slightly
unappetising food to go with it), so I suppose the lawn (and the ducks)
can be done without...
