I really get the feeling that this has been a watershed for football in Japan. The national league is only a decade or so old, but during this month I think that football- and, more precisely, the watching of football- has come of age. Even now, there's talk of the next World Cup in four years' time.

The final's just finished- a 2-0 win to Brazil. I think I lost interest somewhere during the second half- the websites in the previous posts are evidence of this.

This weblog, called BookNotes, looks interesting...

And another for Brazil...

Brazil have just scored! I'm supporting Brazil (even though they beat England), basically because they're not in the EU...
Is this a football match, or a pantomime? It's rapidly descending into farce, as one of the Brazil players manages to put a replacement shirt on back to front. Not just once, either...
Well, the match has started, but I have to say it's a strange feeling- it doesn't feel like the final of the World Cup at all. I wonder whether it's because I'm watching a match between two countries to which I have no connection, in a country which (no matter how close I feel to it) is not my own?

Fifteen minutes to the kick-off. Of course there's a sense of excitement, but there also seems to be a slight melancholy, a sadness that the month has come to an end. The commentators seem to be spending more time looking back over the previous matches than speculating about the final to come. I suppose it's not that surprising, though- it's been a good month for Japan, I think.

Finally, some rain worthy of the rainy season. It's coming down so hard that the air is white, and it be bouncing about a foot off the pavement.
Going to Hiroshima is going to be fun in this weather...
