In tandem with the new name, a new subtitle. So,RIP
Or, "Notes from the Big Orange"- ramblings and musings from a small Japanese island...

So, it's happened. The Breakfast Show is dead, long live the Breakfast Show...
Actually, all that has happened is a slight change of name: 'worldwide' has replaced 'weekend'. Still, it could be momentous, you never know...

Japanese Saturday night television is always... eclectic. For example, on a randomly selected channel this evening, there was a whole programme about (wait for it) piers in Australia.
It was quite absorbing, though!

It's always a good day when you only spend 160 yen...
Actually, this was interesting in itself (well, not really, but what the heck!- it's a weblog entry). A 170-yen loaf of bread, plus 5% tax (8 yen) becomes... 160 yen. Not that I'm complaining or anything!

One thing I realised during the translation of my article into Japanese is that it's far easier to think and compose directly in Japanese than to write in English and then translate. Obviously with both versions being required this time it was unavoidable, but, writing my monthly newspaper article directly into Japanese, I'd never realised how difficult it is to put English into good Japanese while keeping the two versions as close as possible. In the end, I did write some of the Japanese without too much regard to the original English; it would have sounded too odd otherwise.

I finally finished the Navy article, although only after working at it in fits and starts all day. It's a pleasant feeling, though. Now all I have to do is get all the Japanese checked, and email it off. Thank goodness for that, especially as I have the Matsue speech to keep me busy this week...

The wind today has been astonishing, blowing wine bottles from window sills and postcards from picture rails. Typhoon 6 is still way to the south of Japan (although, judging from its size, if it hits it'll be frightening), so the wind isn't because of that; I wonder what's causing this weather?
