"Don't forget that walking down the street in purple tracksuit bottoms is not generally accepted as being fashionable."
After spending most of the afternoon trying to work out a way to get this line into my speech for Matsue, with great regret I accepted defeat, and took it out. A sad day.

Examples of amusing- and just plain bad- language
"Please take special care of those enjoyable times and happy moments. good life send for you."
On a cushion, of all things. I suppose it was too long to fit on a T-shirt...

It probably wasn't a bad thing not going to give blood. One of the people in the office went, and his 'goodies' were... two bananas and a pack of bin bags. Not that tempting, really...
I wonder if this fascination with bin bags as prizes or gifts is just an Etajima thing?

I enjoyed taiko last night, despite playing in the gym without air-conditioning. In fact, the heat almost seemed to contribute to a sense of cameraderie. Nvertheless, this morning I'm really feeling the effects of last night, not in terms of aching muscles so much as throbbing blisters. I have an equal three on each hand, including a matching pair, one on the tip of each thumb. I'm at a real loss to explain how playing taiko can lead to thumb blisters...

Breakfast Show Staple Randomhaiku of the day (from The Genuine Haiku Generator)

scampering bluntly
oceans soften, forgotten
white bartenders laugh

There's a blood donation bus coming today- and I've already been asked if I'm going to go and give blood. I have to admit it's tempting (you get a big bag of goodies if you go), but then I always remember the blood test at the first health check I had here, when the nurse (who looked about junior high school age) couldn't find my vein, and ended up sticking the needle in my arm six times before she could get blood. So I think I'll give the donation today a miss...
Actually, I don't think I could give blood even if I wanted to. I read something about people from countries with BSE problems not being eligible- although this may have changed since Japan's very own BSE scare. In any case, it's a good excuse...

Breakfast Show Staple Notable weather

My goodness, another (relatively) fresh day!
Actually, I realised this even as I got up this morning: the air normally feels heavy outside the washitsu, but this morning there was none of this heaviness, and, biking to work, there was a pleasant breeze. It's still damn hot, of course, but at least it's not quite as humid as normal.
