Spent quite a while this evening playing with a new piece of software: Tinderbox. This software is a note-taker/personal information manager, but in fact is much more than this implies. It's very free-form, and it uses 'agents' to perform on-the-fly searches, creating subsets of data. I think it might well be just what I need- but it'll take some time to explore the complexities and capabilities of the software to the extent that I can decide whether or not to shell out for the registration fee...

Web sites worthy of mention...
The Etajima CIR Calendar Yes, this is my site (nothing like blowing your own trumpet!). Partly as a test, and partly because it will be useful, I put my schedule until Christmas into iCal, and then published the calendar. It works well- although I have to say that editing the original calendar was not far off being a complete nightmare, thanks to iCal's unpredictability when trying to edit entry text. Sometimes double clicks highlight the text, sometimes it takes several tries, and once I ended up deleting the entry completely and recreating it. Not standard Apple ease of use. Anyway, I hope to make this into a rolling schedule- in other words, to extend it on past Christmas.

I registered the Breakfast Show with Bloghop. I wonder whether anyone will bother to read and rate the site?- perhaps I should pay a few bribes...

Having got the article for the Keizai Shunju out of the way, I spent much of the day working on (or, at least, pretending to work on) my speech for Ondo. The flow of the speech is pretty simple, but in fact these 'simple' speeches normally seem to turn out to be the most difficult to buckle down and write. I think part of this is that because the very simplicity leads to complacency- it's simple, so I can write it any time, so there's no need to get to work on it now...

I tried out iCal in the end last night. As the review suggested, it seems to have a few rough edges, but on the other hand, if these are ironed out I think it'll be a very promising application. I especially like the ability to publish a calendar which then works like an internet version of most desktop calendars, complete with day, week and month views. Very clever. I only used two entries in my trial, but I think I'll give the software a try with my school visit calendar for the term...
