Went to taiko. Played taiko. Talked to everyone. Enjoyed myself... ...until my nemesis came along, at which point everything got boring. Came home with Udo-san, because the chap whom I normally go with got a phone call just as we were finishing, to say that a relative had passed away.

All play and no work... In the time I had before taiko (after having set up the weather reports for the Breakfast Show, that is), I made a start on translating the recipes for Saturday into Japanese. Well, I've just about done enough cookery classes to qualify for a Michelin star, so the Japanese itself wasn't a problem, but the measurements, unfortunately, were. I mean, what is one-eighth of a bushel, exactly? No, actually, the measurements weren't quite that obscure, but I did come across a quart and a cup, as well as a pound, all of which needed to be converted into grams and milliletres. Well, it's at times like this that having ADSL comes in handy- a couple of clicks on the internet, and I had a site that converts every measurement possible (even bushels!). It's convert-me.com, and it's a good way to waste half an hour (or 0.0007656 dracontic months, for that matter), even if you don't have any recipes to translate...

Everyone knows that a breakfast show is only a breakfast show if it has weather reports. Well, the Breakfast Show is no exception. Accordingly, from today, on the right of the page are weather reports from Hiroshima Nishi Airfield (just across the water from the Breakfast Show HQ), courtesy of Weatherpixie. This is a great service which represents the weather graphically, complete with 'Japanese lady in kimono'-forecaster... Now I just need traffic reports...

During the afternoon, Wendy and I got together and, after a perusal of the recipes available at Recipesource, decided on what we were going to make at the Indian Day at the weekend. We're (provisionally at least) going to be making Lassi, Naan, Mince Balti, and Coca-Cola Chicken Curry. The last of these, especially, should be interesting...

I always enjoy the lessons I give in the Naval Base, so it's a shame they've finished, although I've already been asked to teach the next group of chukyu students, beginning at the end of March next year. However, as they say, kafuku wa azanaeru nawa no gotoshi, or 'every cloud has a silver lining'; the fact that the Naval Base lessons have finished for the time being means... no more six o'clock mornings!

There'll be something about the Naval Base lessons here, as soon as I get round to finishing writing it...

On the way to the Naval Base this morning, I saw a mukade- a poisonous centipede. Luckily (for me, more than for it) I narrowly avoided stepping on it. The odd thing about this, though, is that this is the second mukade I've seen in as many days- there was one in the cookery room at Koyo Elementary School yesterday. However, up until this week, I think I've only even seen one or two in my whole time in Japan (one actually fell on my shoulder once, in fact, but my reaction- of pure panic!- meant that it was sent flying before it could bite me). Therefore, two in two days is surprising. I wonder if it's like some sort of Biblical-style pestilence?
