Web sites worthy of mention...
Wine Blog
A weblog all about wine (oddly enough, given the title). Plenty of links to wine-related articles on various other sites.

Web sites worthy of mention...
Ujina Port Webcam
I told a friend in the office about the Airport Monitor web site, and he responded by giving me the address of this site, with a live webcam of Ujina Port (in Hiroshima). You can even see Etajima in the background!

After lunch, went to Etajima Elementary School, for the lessons with the first- and second-years that should have been with the fifth- and sixth-lessons.

Web sites worthy of mention...
Los Angeles International Airport- Airport Monitor
A fascinating site for lunchtimes (especially lunchtimes when you're on duty, as I was today); an (almost) realtime display of planes landing at and taking off from Los Angeles International Airport. There's also Boston Logan International Airport, amongst others. This would be great as a screensaver!

Ozu Temple

Another day, another school completely ignoring what's been discussed and agreed. Because of my speech to the Rotary Club last week, I couldn't go to Etajima Elementary School, and so we agreed that last week's lesson, with the fifth- and sixth-years, would be moved to this week. Which is why it was no surprise at all when I phoned up this morning, and the teacher insisted that today's lesson was with the first- and second-years. Hmmm...
Anyway, I agreed to teach the first- and second-years- they were the classes whose lessons were originally scheduled for today, after all (even though we'd definitely agreed to change last week's lesson to today)- so, going by the schedule agreed at the beginning of the term, the lessons should have been from the third period to the sixth period; two lessons each, so we could do cookery. Which is why- of course!- it was no surprise at all to be told that no, actually, the lessons were periods 5 and 6 only, and that the teacher would be grateful if I didn't do cookery, but instead played a game. Fine by me- games are easier than cookery- but why do the teachers make such a fuss every term about sorting out a schedule, only to ignore it completely?

Got to work to find on my desk... a huge bag of pine cones. Nothing surprises me anymore...
(I suppose I should be grateful that it wasn't a bag of potatoes...)

The Japanese flag, the Hi-no-maru, is flying at half-mast over the office today, the first time I've seen this. Presumably this is to mark the funeral of Prince Takamado, the cousin of Emperor Akihito, who died last Thursday. He was only 47.

It's a sparklingly cold day today. One of those days when, as long as you wrap up warmly, it's positively exhilerating to be outside.
