What I did today

Today, I...
  • Went to work;
  • Updated the Breakfast Show;
  • Was on duty at lunchtime;
  • Filmed the pilot video of my 'One-point English TV' series;
  • Taught the first of my elementary english classes in Koyo Community Centre;

Another entry from the sake book. Alcohol and Health: N
Nonstop: If you are a nonstop drinker, you are one hundred percent alcoholic.

As I said the other day, nothing surprises me any more. There was a heavy frost this morning, and on the way to work, all the cars parked by the sea were white over. There were quite a few people trying desperately to get at least part of their windscreens visible, most of them leaving their windscreen wipers on while they went to get bottles of hot water. One man, though, was having none of that. He simply took out of his car a can of chu-hai (fizzy, fruit-flavoured alcohol) and poured that over his windscreen...

Japan A-Z
Hatsuyume
The first dream of the year; in fact, the dream you have on the night of January 2nd. It is said to be very lucky if you dream of Mount Fuji, two hawks and three eggplants. During the New Year season, hanging scrolls placed in the tokonoma of houses will often have these symbols on them.

The first of the ten lessons of my Elementary English Course took place in Koyo Community Centre this evening. There were sixteen people there, which was better than I'd hoped, given that at the beginning of the week only ten or so people had applied. Moreover, they were all really genki and eager to learn, which hasn't always been the case in previous years. We did self-introductions and looked at talking about jobs, interests, etc., and the ninety minutes went very quickly.
For the first time this year, I allowed elementary school sixth years to join the course, and three children from Koyo were there. I had my reservations as to how they'd cope, but in fact they seemed to have no problems whatsoever. It's excellent that they're so eager to learn English.

  • Ebisu (the god of fishermen)
  • Bishamonten (the god of warriors)
  • Hotei (the god of contentment and happiness)
  • (Kisshoten is also sometimes included in the Shichifukujin.)
