What I did today

Today, I...
  • Looked forward to the reopening of Mejiro tonight, after almost a month of it being closed;
  • Edited the "Etajima English TV" pilot video;
  • Put the finished pilot on the web for posterity's sake (it's here);
  • Went to the Naval Base for lunch;
  • Helped to set out the main hall of the Culture Centre for the seijin-shiki on Monday;
  • Almost managed to burn myself trying to buy (and more to the point, to carry) ten cans of hot coffee in one go;
  • Changed the 'washi' icon at the head of each entry on the Breakfast Show to a series of icons reflecting the category of that entry;
  • Changed the order of the Breakfast Show, so that each day's entries read more naturally, from top to bottom;
  • Went to Romantei for dinner, because Takedomi-kun, with whom I'd intended to go to Mejiro, wasn't free.

Another entry from the sake book. Alcohol and Health: O
Obsolete: Alcoholism can be cured by correcting obsolete, incorrect information.

Japan A-Z
Gantan
Gantan means 'New Year's Day', and, along with ganjitsu and o-shogatsu, is one of the ways of referring to January 1st. Gantan means 'January 1st', so it is incorrect to write 'Ichigatsu Gantan' ('ichigatsu' means January) on nengajo, etc.
On this day, most shops are closed, although public transport runs. Many people pay visits- hatsumode- to shrines and temples, to pray for good luck over the coming year.
