What I did today

Today, I...

  • Sent the questions to the Ogiri participants;
  • Went to distribute leaflets for the Ogiri to all the houses in the JMSDF flats in Ohara and Washibe;
  • Went to taiko.

This morning, on my way to work, I couldn't help but laugh when, on the slight hill by the kindergarten, four junior high school boys zoomed past on their bikes; all of them in turn gave me a 'good morning', bellowed at the top of their voices. The amusing part is that the most I normally get from them is a nod; they must have agreed this morning's show between themselves beforehand!

Japan A-Z

Engawa

In older (i.e., more traditional) Japanese houses, there is often a wooden-floored corridor running around the outside of a tatami room. This corridor, or hallway, is the engawa, and serves to provide access from the house to the garden.
Engawa are very rarely seen in new houses.
