Dan Gillmor discusses the difference between "looting" and "earning" with regard to CEOs' salaries.

Question: Why do journalists persist in using the word "earned" when describing the loot extracted from the economy by corporate leaders? I grant that some CEOs do earn their pay, but the evidence grows and grows and grows that vast number of them do not. I wish my colleagues would stop being so lazy, and fundamentally inaccurate, in using this word.
