Art Institute show to offer 3 Michelangelo sculptures By Alan G. Artner Tribune art critic Published June 12, 2002
An exhibition coming to the Art Institute of Chicago this fall will bring here for the first time sculptures by one of the greatest figures of the Renaissance, Michelangelo Buonarrotti.
"The Medici, Michelangelo, and the Art of Late Renaissance Florence" will include three Michelangelo sculptures along with paintings, drawings, tapestries and decorative objects created by other artists for the family that for three centuries dominated the political and cultural life of the Italian city.
The show, which opens at the museum on Nov. 9, is only the second occasion when a major Michelangelo sculpture has come from an Italian collection to the United States.
