News: Factiva CEO: News will cost in two years: "According to Hart, publishers around the world are starting to migrate their users to the notion of paying for content and the next two years are just going to be the transition period. When consumers are unable to access certain information, they will quickly learn to pay for the electronic version, she believes.
The Wall Street Journal, Hart pointed out, never gave the paper away for free having elected for a subscription model from day one."

Should it be any surprise at all that Ms. Hart is bringing out these points? No, not at all. As a former sales person for the Dow Jones Business Internet Services I would expect nothing less from her. Dow Jones highly values their content and almost never gives it away.
I'm not even sure why this article is generating so much buzz. Dow Jones and now Factiva have lived and died by their content.
As much as I like free content, there is some content that I pay for (like The Wall Street Journal and the Dow Jones News Retrieval Service). Yup, they're both Dow Jones products. You can't find content like this anywhere else.
Disclaimer: I used to work for Dow Jones 4 years ago on the Dow Jones News Retrieval Service. It taught me quite a bit about the value of content and brand.

Hard to believe this. HP turned down PwC when they came to pitch their company again. Nope. We don't need any help now. We did 2 years ago when we wanted to buy you. Now? No. We're doing quite nicely on our own.
