Cruising the Dark Side. In Stephen King's new novel, a haunted car coughs up freaky creatures and happenings, but this book is about things you cannot see. By Janet Maslin. [New York Times: Books]

I've been reading Stephen King since around ... maybe ... I don't know. I was too young to be reading "Salem's Lot" but I did anyways. It gave me nightmares and some episodes of sleep walking which caused my family no end of comedy. Since that time, I've read most of what he's written.

For the past 6 or 7 years, I haven't read many things that he's written because it all seemed so formulaic and hastily produced. I don't believe he's gotten better as the years passed. And his latest book about a haunted car seems to me to be a rehash of "Christine" which wasn't really a good book to begin with.

Amazon Gold Goodness. Recently my Amazon Gold Box increased its offering to 15 items! It continues to try and tempt me with useless... [megnut]

And here I was thinking I was the only one who thought the Amazon Gold Box was so stupid. Most of it was junk that I'd never be interested in. How could they be so wrong with a new feature since they normally seem to be so good at recommending things to me?

Norman Vincent Peale. "Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop the picture...Do not build up obstacles in your imagination." [Motivational Quotes of the Day]

Building up obstacles comes naturally for me. I'm a cynical optimist. I think things will be better but I counter that with all the ways that it could go wrong.

I don't like being cynical either. It's too enervating. I'm always wanting to find the kinks in all that can happen. Sometimes it just makes me look like a grump. And I hate looking like a grump.
