Don't know what's come down to me but my body is refusing to revert back to Japan Standard Time even though I am back from NYC for more than a week now. There is just something about that city.

As reported earlier as a rumor, Salon is having trouble raising cash. Unfortunately it seems to be true.

I am in the process of simplifying the UI for this blog again so please bear with me. Let me know if you like the new design.

In the end, it did come down to a very creative play for Brasil to seal the win against Germany: Rivaldo's marvelous move to let an incoming pass go through his legs to Ronaldo behind him fooled the German defenders long enough to let Ronaldo score.

World Cup 2002 is finally over; an incredible month of action that featured a courageous Irish team, tournament surprises Senegal, US, Korea and Turkey, a German goalie as tough as a wall and some beautiful attacking Brasilian football.

Personally World Cup also made me sick - not just once, but twice - as I was trying to stay up all night to watch the quarterfinals while travelling to New York for a week. Or maybe it was the Adidas "Got Fever?" ad line that got to me. Whatever the case I was burning with real fever on two separate days during my stay in the Big Apple.

It's time to go back to normal.

Actually tried to go buy World Cup final tickets this morning but we got there too late! People were lining up since last night... guess we will watch the game at home. No big deal.

There were three types of tickets on sale today: $300, $500, and $750. Rumor has it the $300 were sold out before we could get to the ticket window.  I don't think I would have wanted to pay more than $300 for a ticket though, as much as I love football...

Salon in Dire Straits [Slashdot]
I certainly hope this is just a rumor, a false one at that.  On or off the web, Salon is one of the best source of investigative news reporting.  I find it difficult to go back to other news sites like CNN after subscribing to Salon.

Well what can I say folks- after three weeks of madness, we have come down to the classic matchup for the World Cup final.  Will Brasilian football prevail with their entertaining attack football, or will Germans claim their fourth cup with their imposing goalie and stingy defense? May the creative guys win. :-)

This is quite ridiculous.

I am normally not an Argentinian fan, but I can't help but feel that their first round ouster is monumentally tragic given the depth and poise of their players who play beautiful attacking football. Losing France was bad enough; not seeing the Argentinians go through is just a bit too much to bear.  And I shudder at the possibility of a Sweden-Denmark final.

I watched one of the greatest World Cup game today in Ireland vs. Germany. Down a goal early in the first half, Ireland kept plugging away and finally scored the equalizer in the 90th minute against the stingy and imposing German defense. Watching the resilient Irish one finds a great lesson not just in soccer but in life: never give up!

They are not called the "Fighting Irish" for nothing.
