Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. Met up with my aunties and Cousin Duck for a nice Cantonese dinner at a restaurant close to Duck's flat in Tsim Sha Tsui. The soup - definitely one of the best things about Cantonese food - was simply mar-ve-lous. We also feasted on pigeons, stir-fried mango and beef, a tofu and abalone dish as well. And a red bean soup dessert to top it all off - not so sweet as its Japanese counterpart. Afterwards we decided to take a walk down nearby Temple St. with street vendors hawking all kinds of goods. "Genuine" Louis Vitton bags anyone? My favorite has to go to the "Giovan Kelvin (GK)" men's briefs, however.

Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. Got into the former British colony just a couple hours ago. As usual cell phones belonging to our fellow passengers started whizzing back to life as soon as we stepped off the plane to the transit area (if you think Japan is bad, Hong Kong is perhaps three times worse.) Since we took the highly efficient airport train last time we came, this time we decided to try the bus into Kowloon; the double decker A21 definitely oozes along at a more leisurely pace but we were able to catch the scenery along the way. I didn't realize until today how far the construction of multi-housing complexes have come: many places in New Territories that were just small villages as I remembered them are now filled with tall and skinny residential skyscrapers. (Junko remarked how many of them looked as if though they were fashioned out of lego blocks.) Anyway we got hungry when we got off the bus at Tsim Sha Tsui and had a quick lunch of - my favorite - beef fried rice noodles. Yummy. And that my friends, are why we are here. More later.
