Burabura World Tour
What is this?
We got hitched, will travel. This is a world tour to visit our friends and family so they can help us celebrate!
Why not just have a big wedding with 300 guests and get it over with quickly?
- We are both shy people;
- I am American and Simone is Brasilian and we live in Japan, so we can't agree on a good place that would be close enough for my relatives from US, her relatives from Brasil, and our friends from Japan;
- We like to travel;
- Can't talk to people in big weddings;
Tour History
Here's the skinny: we applied to get married in the Setagaya Ward office at Shimokitazawa on March 18, 2002. The office told us that our application might not get approved because we couldn't get Brasilian embassy to issue certain documents. With no alternative, we pressed on and submitted our application to the Ward office anyway and got the full bureaucratic treatment: our application was passed on to the Japanese Ministry of Justice, and we had an interview with the people there who peppered us with the sort of questions I can hardly remember the answers to (e.g. "on what day did you two first meet?"). But I guess we didn't flunk because we finally found out on June 12, 2002 we are officially married (which by the way, is almost three months after we had applied!) The good thing is that we were just about to take a trip to New York area and the trip unofficially became the first couple legs of our Burabura World Tour.
