0.09 um CMOS in second half 2003

Intel stretching silicon for power. CNET Aug 12 2002 11:15PM ET [Moreover - moreover...]

0.09 um, strained-silicon, low-k field dielectric, seven-layer metalization, 12-inch wafers.

Although... these days it's so hard to tell whay dimension is refered to when citing a process. It seems to be what ever is convenient to advance the purpose of the press release. (The article does say gate length will be 0.05 um.)

I've had at least one long arguement withmy thesis advisor that two layers of SiO2 is 5 "atoms" thick. He insists that it must be 6, and therefore any mention of 5 must be totaly "fake".

Heck, I don't even do CMOS anyway. Can't remeber the last time I did either.

Pegasus v4.02

I've upgraded my mail client from Pegasus v.312c to v4.02. I was holding back due to the number of known issues discussed in the newsgroup. However, since my new laptop with WinXP tends to stay up longer between reboots (on occaision up to a week!) I would also tend to leave Pegasus open. On numerous occaisions this has caused WinXP to blue-screen. No such problem with v4.02 so far.

The v4 series has a nifty preview mode that avoids the opening of billions of gratuitous windows that I never enjoyed. Still no mail sync with Palm, though. In all honesty, I admit that I want something that is like Outlook without being Outlook. Word has it that Evolution is like that, except it doesn't run on Windows.

Category: Name in Lights

Adding Category Links to Radio Entries. I'm attempting now to include a list of the categories associated with each entry, following a pointer from Matthew Ernest to a script by Marc Paschal. For me, this is like following a recipe without really understanding the stove, so if it doesn't work I hope it doesn't screw up the legibility of the entries. [Radio Free Blogistan]

There's a change to Marc's code that I think I stole from Jake Savin: instead of looping over all existing categories, I loop over the categories that the post belongs to. I think that saves me on average half an order of magnitude on interations.

Empty

Out of business Discount chain Ames to close all stores [Google News]

This is my main store, because:

  • It's actually in the city, so I can get to it without a car
  • It has stuff I can afford
  • It's not Wal*Mart

This will doubly affect the Troy Plaza, which is already hurting since the pirates at Price Chopper closed down the grocery store they just refurbished after a fire and are sitting on the lease to ensure that a competitor doesn't spring up to draw off any business from their out-of-town giga-store.
