Buddy Hackett, Irrepressible, Streetwise Clown, Dies at 78. The clowning of the roly-poly streetwise comedian from Brooklyn was a fixture on America's home screens in the 1950's and 60's. By Richard Severo. [New York Times: Arts]

Ain't that America?. Denounced as un-American after he blasted Bush on his 21st album, John Mellencamp talks about the rise of Fox News, pay-for-play, what's wrong with the Rolling Stones and why most Republicans aren't rich enough to be Republicans. [Salon.com]

And while were on the subject, Mellencamp's latest album, "Trouble No More", is excellent. I can't recommend it highly enough. It's the best thing he's done since "The Lonesome Jubilee" and one of the best albums I've heard so far this year.
