According to news.com, AMD has filed trademark papers with the US PTO for the names Metaron and Opteron, presumably for their upcoming Hammer line of 64-bit chips. They've also puts dibs on Forton, Multeon, and Vanton.

I'm going to take one of the designs from opencores.org and release it as the Perspiron.

If VB.NET didn't have the ancestry it does, I think it would be perceived as a clean, forthright, highly productive language (a plus when people are talking about Java or Python, but somehow a minus when they discuss VB) - throw in a few obfuscational regex operators and a few $ or # signs and you might have Ruby!. It might even be thought of as "fun to use." As it is, the past crowds into the present.
