Google Labs passes Borges test [The Register].

I bought a used copy of Borges's Ficciones at The Bookstore in Chico when I was in high school. Read it through several times. What I still find remarkable is the concision with which he expresses complex ideas - particularly recursion and combinatorics, both of which are recurring motifs in his writing. Short stories don't get much better than what you find in Ficciones.

Kings 92 Lakers 91!

As someone who grew up in Northern California and remembers the year the Kings moved to Sacramento, I'm really excited to see the Kings standing toe-to-toe with That Team From Los Angeles. Played many hours of schoolyard hoops with Brian LeVenton pretending to be some player or another on the mid-80's Kings. The only one whose name I can remember is Reggie Theus - wonder what became of him...
