Note that the source is included in the rpms at cosmoe.com, but the makefiles appear to be totally broken at this point.

Got Cosmoe to work. Had to symlink a couple of libraries into /lib and add vga=788 to my grub.conf - then I was able to start the Cosmoe desktop. Big problems with mouse events and screen redrawing though - any mouse movement at all caused large portions of the screen to be redrawn black. Also, the mouse cursor changed back and forth between a standard pointer and the text console block. Obviously some work still to be done - it is a "developer's release" after all.

The first release of Cosmoe is available. Since it uses the Linux kernel, you can install it on your Linux box quite easily using the rpms he provides. That's the idea, anyway. The author claims it should work with any 2.4-based distribution, but I haven't been able to get it to work with my stock installation of RH 7.2 on my laptop yet. Will try again tonight while I'm watching game 6 of the wonderful Kings/Lakers series.
