The problem with Scheme (and the rest of the Lisp family) isn't the appearance of the parentheses - it's the wicked contextual hierarchy they create. I suppose that in time I'll get used to it - but for now, quickly trying to read how the code on the page fits together is difficult (like reading Proust, almost - dependent clauses in dependent clauses in dependent clauses...).
