I'm itching to try iPhoto - don't know what I'm expecting, but I've had several friends whose opinion I trust speak highly of it. Having it automatically copy the photos off my camera and categorize them for me would be great (sure I could script this somehow right now - but wouldn't it be better to have it done automatically?). My wife would like the built-in ability to order prints and photo albums - she does that now through the Ofoto website.

Still hunting for a decent photo editor on Windows that gives me the handful of editing facilities I use regularly married to an elegant, non-clunky interface. I use the Windows port of the Gimp if I feel like slogging through a half dozen floating tool palette windows in order to convert a file from some esoteric format into a more common one. I use IrfanView for quick viewing and resizing. I use the WinXP Picture and Fax Viewer to flip photos from landscape to portrait and flip through pictures, slideshow-style. If I had another editor with a miniscule startup time that included all these features, I'd definitely use it. Extra points for being cross-platform.

Bought a Canon S30 yesterday - so far very impressed. It's a bit heavy and wide for slipping in the breast pocket, but it takes gorgeous pictures and has any number of settings to tweak - though most of the time full auto serves just fine.
