The point. Joel Spolsky: I have lots of opinions as to what makes a "good" syntax. But I wouldn't accept a 20 MB runtime just to get semicolons.[diveintomark]

No, that's not the point. The point is this: 4-6x increased developer productivity and speed (as measured by two different companies I have worked with). I am going to write something on this soon. Joel is clueless in Colorado-). The real point is the 4-6x increased developer speed that comes with the Runtime (CLR) doing all the memory management, boundary checking and the amazing BCL providing *one* class framework, not dozens per Windows development pre-.NET. We took a COM/ATL/C++ team, a Java team and a .NET team on the same application at a certain company and we clocked the project velocity of the .NET team at 4-6x the speed of the others even with some people being totally new to .NET. The 20MB runtime is a NON issue. You get a whole hell of a lot for your 20MB. Sure you can have a 10K ATL component. But who the heck wants to program this way any more? Who wants to spend their weekends chasing down memory references and memory leaks? I've spent the last 9 years as a COM Guru and you know what? I'll trade it in a second for the 20MB runtime and having all that cruft gone. Its a level of abstration Joel. Its not about semicolons. P.S. The runtime is already being pushed out through Windows Update. Soon, all Windows machines will have it. Its a non-issue.

Ok, I admit, my friends at Wrox really screwed up the 1st edition to rush it out. But the 2nd is quite good. I was one of the technical reviewers on this one.

searchdotnet.info - Searching .net information online

searchdotnet.info is an Internet search engine of information on Microsoft .net and related technologies. The system gathers information by inviting end users to suggest URLs of web pages to include in the search index. The suggestions are subsequently reviewed by an administrator for relevance to .net, and those accepted are crawled and indexed by an automated "web bot". Search results of searchdotnet.info are ranked by keyword matches. The index is refreshed about once a month.
