Sam Ruby: Gordon Weakliem: REST vs. SOAP... Each of these battles has the sides well dug in, though the resistance from the non-adopters seems to be stronger than the push from the early adopters.  Careful... make sure that you count for the large contingent of people who are simply focused on getting their job done.

Yes, count me as one of those who just want to get their job done. I have seen a lot of pstings on REST (which I never heard of until I blogged) vs. SOAP and frankly I don't understand any of this. I am not a Web Services Guru like Sam, Simon and others, but someone please articulate in a sentence why I should care. Yes, SOAP the spec is more complicated than it had to be. Yes, its not perfect. But it works. Not only does it work but it is working so great that I and many others have implemented systems based on it that we would never have been able to before. And with ASP.NET and VS.NET, its virtually transparent. Its very easy to create web distributed applications. So what's the problem? What's the debate?
