The Emergency Email Network. Just thought I'd post a link to this since I tend to rely on it quite a bit. EEN is a service that sends emails in case of emergencies. Things like extreme weather (you give them your zip) "terrorist warnings" etc, etc. No ads, no bullshit, no nothing. The emails are pretty rare, as you might imagine. So the overhead's nice and low.
This is the only incoming email address I don't have filtered off to some categorized folder. It stays right in the inbox where I can't miss it.
Check it out. [The Universal Church Of Cosmic Uncertainty]

Are smart people overrated?.
Malcolm Gladwell
The management of Enron, in other words, did exactly what the consultants at McKinsey said that companies ought to do in order to succeed in the modern economy. It hired and rewarded the very best and the very brightest — and it is now in bankruptcy. The reasons for its collapse are complex, needless to say. But what if Enron failed not in spite of its talent mind-set but because of it? What if smart people are overrated? [Michael J. Hehir's Radio Weblog]

"Wages and salaries owed you as of today are "prepetition wages" and likely will not be paid for a matter of months, if not longer.... Any Vanguard stock you hold (including stock purchased in the Employee Stock Purchase Plan) is almost certainly worthless and it is likely you will be entitled to claim a capital loss on such stock this year." But not all is gloomy: the CEO "wish[es] you the best in your future career. You will be in our prayers." Aww, shucks. [MetaFilter]
