Google Gets Partial Win vs. Government TheStreet.com - Google notched a significant victory in a data disclosure battle with the federal government. But the search-engine giant will still have provide some information to the U.S. Justice Department.
Late Friday, U.S. District Judge James Ware decided Google won't have to disclose samples of searches that people have conducted on its search engine, according to media reports.
The government's request for sample keywords used in searches has generated strong opposition from Google and privacy rights advocates.
Judge Ware did rule, however, that Google has to turn over to the Justice Department the Internet addresses of 50,000 randomly selected Web sites the has indexed, the Associated Press reported.
The Justice Department wanted to use the data to defend a law designed to shield children from Internet pornography.
