Why is it so hard to find references for temporal data modeling? It took me a while to even dig up Bill Inmon's paper here. There Ought To Be some decent patterns for doing this sort of thing: capturing the full change history to data records, so you can see the current state, any previous state, and all the changes that took us from A to B.
