Sam Palmisano's On-Demand WebCast

http://www.investor.ibm.com/investor/events/ibm1002/#

There's some really fascinating concepts in this presentation; it's impressive that IBM is placing such a huge emphasis on this kind of R&D development. Palmisano's demanor and delivery is in great contrast to some of the tech execs in the Bay Area: http://www.ivtweb.com/webcast/siebel/101502/ , who sometimes look like really smart HS kids the way they posture and pose on stage. Anyway, IBM's sinking $10Bln into the development of this On-Demand message. I'm working on an essay that highlights some of these ideas, as part of the next Stencil Group in-depth paper. Amy Wohl had a nice summary of the IBM news for those interested: http://www.wohl.com/wa0288.htm

Michael Chabon in SF this week --

For anyone in the Bay Area, Michael Chabon (http://www.michaelchabon.com) is appearing at Clean, Well-Lighted Place for Books (on Van Ness), this Wed. evening @ 7PM to promote his new book, Summerland(http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0786808772/shopperpointcom/102-6196284-6142529). I just started it in the past week and it's a real joy. In some ways very similar to "Cavalier & Clay," and in other ways *very* different. As Chabon describes the book "as a fantasy, based in the contemporary world, and set against a background of American myth, in the way that Puck of Pook's Hill and Susan Cooper's novels are set against a background of British and Celtic myth." http://www.michaelchabon.com/current.html Not sure what the latter is in reference to, as I must admit ignorance on both "Puck of Pook's Hill," and Susan Cooper, but I'll have to look into it, based on this writer's endorsement.

Wealth of activity over the past several days; just trying to absorb all of it. Obvious headline is the MSFT/DOJ decision, but the Q3 GDP came out last week, as well as Sam Palmisano presenting IBM's vision of "On Demand Computing." Commentary to come soon.
